Welcome to this family art lesson on collage and creating a work of art in honor of the Blessed Mother on the Feast of her Assumption. This lesson is a wonderful opportunity to bring families together to deepen their faith and connection with Mary. The Feast of the Assumption is a significant event in the Catholic faith, celebrating the belief that Mary was taken body and soul into heaven. Through art, we can express our love and devotion to the Blessed Mother and reflect on her role in our lives.

To begin this art project, make sure to gather the necessary materials. You will need 3 sheets of paper for the different stages of the artwork. Have a pencil and eraser on hand for sketching and drawing. Depending on your preference, you can use watercolor paints with brushes, water, and paper towels for blending colors, or markers and crayons for a different effect. Oil pastels can also add depth and texture to your artwork. A thin black marker will be essential for outlining and adding details. Don't forget to have glue and child-safe scissors for the collage aspect of the project.

The first video will outline the theology behind the Assumption of Mary. Then you can set up your supplies. Once you have all your materials ready, start by sketching a figurative drawing of Mary in video 2. You can use a reference image or create your own interpretation. After sketching, you can proceed to add color using watercolors, markers, or crayons. Feel free to experiment with different techniques and combinations of materials to achieve the desired effect. To add a finishing touch to your artwork, use a fine pen to outline details and enhance the overall composition. Through this artistic process, you can contemplate the beauty and significance of the Feast of the Assumption while creating a unique piece of art to honor Mary.
